My name is Mike.

We just purchasd a 1987 Fiero GT for my 15 year old son. He loves the car and I figured it would be a great reason for us to spend time farting around with it. He has 8 months till he gets his liscense so there is plenty time to make sure the car is mechanically perfect.

We have a few issues to address.

The drivers side door hinge is bad and the door sags slightly
The engine temperature seesm to climb to an uncomfartable point. I checked the switch and it seems to work fine. Just concerned that the temp seems high.
The dash lights are dim. I already checked the transistor and it function as expected, so perhaps the bulbs are just not very bright.

If there are any members in MAcomb county Michigan that know their way around a Fiero let me know.

Thank you

hI MY NAME IS rICK AND IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE AN AIR LOCK IN YOUR COOLING SYSTEM COUSING THE TEMP TO RUN HIGH AND YOUR DOOR HING PROBLY JUST NEEDS A NEW BUSHING I NEED TO REPLACE THE ONE ON MINE(1988 FORMULA). IT APEERS YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF BULBS BLOWN IN YOUR DASH LIGHTS WITCH IS AN EASY FIX OR THE DIMMER SWITCH FOR THE DASH LIGHTS MAY BE BAD.hOPE I WAS SOME SORT OF HELP FOR YOU. tHERE IS A SPECIAL PROCEDUR TO BLEEDING OUT THE AIR IN THE COOLING SYSTEM.IF SOMEONE REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, RADIATOR, ECT. THEN IT MAY NOT HAVE HAD THE AIR BLEAD OUT RIGHT.

Rick
We started with the easy stuff. we checked the dimmer at it seems to be working properly. I then bypassed it and still found the lights a little dim. I replaced a couple bulbs with a brighter alternate and it helped. Will probably replace them all.

Next we tackled the door hinge. as you suggested the upper bushings were completley missing. It took a little effort but we replaced the bushings and pin and door hangs and shuts great.

We are currently working on the brakes. The brakes were spongey and there was a small amount of brake fluid leaking at the rear passenger side. I found that the previous owen "fixed" a rusted line by plugging it with a machine screw. So the small brake problem turned into all new stainless brake lines and rear calipers.
