When the Pontiac Fiero first came out, it was wearing what is now commonly referred to as the "bumperpad" body style. The front and rear bumper covers have black pads molded in, that give the appearance of a separate bumper mechanism. They are however, simply molded protrusions in the cover painted black. The 1984 model year had a few differences from the ones that followed: the decklid had a large center vent and two solid side caps as well as a different door panel mounting arrangement. 1985 models and later did away with the large center vent and instead have two side vents. The bumperpad style itself was available through 1986.
