Resource: http://www.fieros.de/en/articles/headlight.html Background info: The Fiero headlight systems were produced in two distinctly different versions: 84-86 models (Gen 1) and the 87-88 Models (Gen 2). The easiest method for visual identification is by checking the manual operation knobs on the top. < --The 84-86 models have a large circular knob with two holes in the top. The 87-88 models have a smaller tapered knob, reminiscent of a stretched beer bottle cap. --> The most common issue with the Gen 1 Fiero headlights is failure of the headlight gears, causing the headlights to get stuck up or down. The Gen 2 headlight's primary point of failure are the cylinders that connect the motor to the headlight which are designed to fail under a load.
First off: Are you able to hear the motor run or see the knob on top spin even though the headlights themselves are not moving? You need to rebuild your headlight motors. A simple process thanks to parts made available by Rodney Dickman. http://www.rodneydickman.com/ He has two kits available in the "Electrical" section. Select the appropriate headlight kit for the model you have. Cick here for a Gen 2 Rebuild Guide Click here for a Gen 1Rebuild Guide
If not, then using the Diagnostic menu on the left, select your problem: - Both Won't Open/Close
