I'm having trouble again with my 85 fiero. it won't start, the engine won't even crank. every time i tried to start it instead of cranking there is a loud buzzing sound. I don't know if its the starter or something else. I really need some help, school starts in about a week and I need a ride. this started happening about four days ago, I was about to leave from the store, I turned the key i heard one crank and it just started to buzz as if the starter was jammed. i really need some help.

Hows your battery voltage, if your lucky that really sounds just like a dead battery. You could try swapping the battery or jumping it to see if it will start.

I has the same problem.
Your battery is dead.
Charge it, replace it, and tighten your alternator belt.
That seems to be the universal fix.

Possible your starter has gone bad.

Can you tell by sound if its actually engaging the flywheel or if its just clicking in place?

Ok I pulled out the starter this morning tested it, it was fine so I put it back in place. I switched out the battery and put the one I had in my saturn in to the fiero and it started up just fine so I left it.  I put the other battery in the saturn and it started up just fine. The car is playing with my head.

Its possible then its just an issue with your cables. If the cables get corroded or at all loose the car may act odd or not start at all.

ok i found the problem, i pulled out the starter and had it tested. it passed but one of the posts was loose so after tightening it i reinstalled it and guess what it started. so after about two weeks of driving i was reported to the dmv for excess pollution, i'm burning so much oil. they told me that if i got pulled over for that reason i will be fined $1500. so i'm parking it for now until i save up enough for my tuition and a new engine. i was looking at this 350 small block but i don't know yet, i want something that i can keep upgrading after i get ou t of college.
