I pulled the shocks of my 86 GT and I may only be a 17 year old but are the shocks supposed to be easy to push in by hand and then return slowly?

I have done shocks for my friends and they are never this soft.

Should I buy new ones? What do I do?

They shouldn't be quite so easy to push in, I believe there are two typical types of shocks, on one the shock will sit where you put it and the other will extend.

I would recommend replacing them, if its so soft you can easily push it by hand odds are its doing very little on the car.
