3  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: starting issues on: August 18, 2008, 10:21:34 PM
I'm having trouble again with my 85 fiero. it won't start, the engine won't even crank. every time i tried to start it instead of cranking there is a loud buzzing sound. I don't know if its the starter or something else. I really need some help, school starts in about a week and I need a ride. this started happening about four days ago, I was about to leave from the store, I turned the key i heard one crank and it just started to buzz as if the starter was jammed. i really need some help.

I has the same problem.
Your battery is dead.
Charge it, replace it, and tighten your alternator belt.
That seems to be the universal fix.

Mmmm...
Make sure nothing stripped.
I found my belt was slipping becasue the the bolt was stripped.
I put a logner one in and put new lockwashers on both sides.

Oh and BTW.
My fiero is running very well now. : D

If the problem still occurs I'll try that.
My neighbor, who also has a fiero came over and helped with my alternator belt.
We found that the belt was fine, but the alterantor actaully wasnt bolted on. XD
The bolt ahd come loose and fallen out on the pivot point.
And the area for the bolt to tighten the alternator in was stripped.
we repaced the pivot point's bolt and now I have to run to Ace Hardware in teh morning to find a longer bolt to put in the tightening spot.
But other than that- new battery made the car start.
And my friend fiddled with the TPS to make my car not idle like a piece of junk.

Bad news bears.
The car won't start now. D :

I turn the key and the first time I do it I'll hear this clicking noise in the engine.
The second time it wont do anything.

Before this happened I had noticed my volts on my car gradually going down for the few days I had been driving it.
(accompanied by the squeel from the alternator belt)

And the squeel started after I had cut out a make-shift alarm system otu of the front.
Anyone have a diagram of the electical system for a 86 fiero?

I've been told the possible causes are:
Alternator's bad- have a new alternator
Spark plugs are bad- have 3 new spark plugs, -3 old.
battery is bad.
or I fucked up some electrical shit in the front. >.<

Okay.
Bought an 86 Fiero from my friend for 1,000.
Not the greatest car ever, but I liked how it looked.

Now I've got a lot of things to fix on it and I wanted to see what help I can get with it.
First off and most importantly:
The unbearably annoying  alternator belt.

When I bought the car it would squeel for 10 seconds every time the car started, then stop.

I'm driving it a few days later, and the squeel is non-stop and LOUD.
I'm not sure why.
I know that the previous owner had a makeshift alarm system installed. with messes of wires.
So I cut them all out.
From what I know, I didn't cut out anything IMPORTANT.
(although I noticed on the diagram for the alram system it said to cut the wire to the distributor)
(I never reconnected anything--I don't know which one is the right wire. >.< )
And ever since then I've had that problem.

My friends say to tighten the belt, (which will be my first action)
But I need to know how to get to it.
It tucked in on the right side of the engine at the bottom, virtually unreachable. D :

Also, some annoying things:
Left turn signal stays on.
Both signals turn on my wipers half the time.
The sun-visor falls on my head ocnstanty.
the signal turns off my CD player occasionally.
And I cant adjust my seat. T.T

Any help?
