16  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: Getting my Fiero painted on: April 27, 2008, 07:21:51 PM
I have this real cool book called"Fiero"by Gary Witzenburg. It has the factory paint specs, they are in order of application as follows:1.SMC Substrate.2.Conductive Molded Coating.3.Conductive Prime.4.Primer Surfacer.5.Colour Top Coat.Quite extensive for that time, fiero was ahead of its time.I've never seen a fiero with fresh factory paint, must've been a real head turner.I bought a brand new 86 v6 se back in march of 87,but it was vandalised on the lot, paint was scratched up,so it was repainted.I demanded a big discount cus the paint wasnt factory, and they did!The dealer was honest enough to tell me,wont see that nowadays!

Yeah, thanx, that was a huge help Xanth.I read the part on there were he says paint fumes not only cause cancer they give you cancer, wear a mask with a filter. My father painted cars on the side.He was a hard ass.And he didnt even wear a breather mask when priming!!!!!!!.Lo and behold, died of lung cancer,4-5 years later,so true, good of him to print that precaution.

I think i have decided to just put money into my fiero and keep it.After its fixed mechanically, ill get a paint job.I,ve gotten my previous fiero painted 3 times a while back, and wasnt impressed.I could see sandpaper marks all over through the paint, everytime from 3 different painters, and a bunch of other things.I heard painting fibre glass and plastic type of stuff is a totally different animal, especially the fiero.I want a decent paint job,and not seeing sanding scratches through the paint is not asking too much IMO.Any tips on how to get it painted the RIGHT way? Will just any painter do,i have a feeling ill have to bring it to an elite shop that paints ferrari's and lambos at elite prices for crying out loud!

How do i get the chip reprogrammed?Good thing i kept my old solenoids!Man,combustion engines are such a headache,i can see why lots are converting to electrical engines!!!!!!!!
21  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: Darn darn darn, something always breaks on: April 20, 2008, 09:48:37 PM
Yeah, same with me,this winter has been the worse, everything seems to be failing or breaking, one after the other, non stop. Its been sitting for about 6 months, cus it needed a total break overhaul,so i had to wait till i had money to do it,i have another car and motorcycle to take care of also.It seems like when any vehicle sits too long, everything falls apart on it!
22  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Oh no,not another!EGR control solenoid keeps failing? on: April 20, 2008, 09:23:27 PM
OOps,i forgot to mention one other thing that keeps failing, the egr control solenoid.I,ve gone through those things almost as much as ignition modules. What is the cause of this one now? When ever going uphill, the Check Engine Soon light comes up,and flashes a code 32,my manual states its the egr vaccum control solenoid.Which fixes it for about 9 months, and fails again and again, still flashing same fault and solution. I ignore it now,cus everytime that happens its been the egr solenoid. And my 86 v6 no longer needs emmisions testing cus its over 20 years old,so i can get away with not fixing it right away, thank god!!!!!.Is there a way to prevent this. Also,is there a way to fix, rebuild the bad solenoids,i have about 4 of those suckers stored away.Thanx!!!!!

Yeah,I,ve been applying the white grease that comes supplied with the ac-delco modules,i will switch to the thermal paste for sure,Thanx a million guys for the great responses!
24  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Ignition modules keep failing? on: April 19, 2008, 08:42:33 PM
My v6 gt has been going through ignition modules like crazy.Since 95,ive gone through 4-5 MAYBE MORE of them. The gm ac-delco ones were better, lasted longer, but still burned out.I figure that the modules cant handle the heat.Alot of folks have been with me when opening the engine lid,and couldnt believe the heat under there.I have no over heating problems either.I've been told all fieros run pretty hot.Anyone have this problem?and what causes it?Is it just that the gm-ac-delco ones are crap? Are there better ones, cus i dont want to buy any more that will fail, the last acdelco one cost me$194 cdn!!!,not cheap.
25  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts on: April 19, 2008, 12:01:52 PM
Yes,i noticed that too. While washing my fiero,id see water going in where the strip was taken out,all this steam would pour out, because of hitting hot exhaust pipes.I thought, what a stupid frigging thing to do,now my plugs will rust in the threads,or crack something.Thats why i change my spark plugs every spring.Where did those engineers get their degrees from?a bubble gum machine?
26  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: Darn darn darn, something always breaks on: April 18, 2008, 08:39:50 PM
Yep,my Fiero has been pretty solid, till about 2 years ago, when it hit 20 years old. When it hit 20 years old, everything seems to fail or fall apart. The same for most fiero owners ive talked to.Alot of components are original on my car, that can be very expensive when it all seems to break down at once,or one after another.
27  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts on: April 18, 2008, 07:26:19 PM
Yeah,i remember that recall. What the hell was the reason for that!..ventilation?
28  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts on: April 18, 2008, 01:25:46 PM
Yeah, i know what you mean. Its pretty much either you put in the money or you dont.Just changing the heads is a great idea!Im so stupid!why didnt i think of that, its a possible option ill look into, thanx a million xanth! This just an unfortunate thing.Actually, what is the cause of broken exhaust bolts anyway?Besides rust/age,I was thinking maybe because the engine mount bolts are loose/broken also?which results in engine moving around?
29  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Feels like Back end swaying side to side when at turns on: April 17, 2008, 05:14:05 PM
My fiero has a number of problems, but hey,it's a 22 year old car. While at highway speeds or stepping on the gas around turns, the back end seems to gradually not violently sway side to side like i have rear wheel steering. And let me tell ya,its a scary as heck experience!!!!!!Was told its worn rear tie rods.I had to go out and buy some used ones about 80 kms from my place in TORONTO CANADA,since they are now discontinued.I really hope thats the cause. Can anyone verify?Thanx.Oh yeah ,when car is lifted on hoist, there is play vertically or horizontally,or both cant recall,on both wheels.
30  General Category / Fiero Help / Fiero Chat / Re: Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts on: April 17, 2008, 04:09:56 PM
S$#t!!!!.I think I'll just scrap it,Put it in one of those car crushers.I put over $6000 into the damn thing,to just sell it for $1000,if im lucky,no way.I can sell it part by part, dont have the tools or know how, garage,so no.Maybe ill just drive it off a cliff, where i can legally anyway :-\The thing is,also, removing the engine/heads will just break and damage more hard to find, discontinued parts,GUARANTEED.I dont know, ill probably end up keeping it anyway, and cough up the dough,i love it too much.
