Title: Help with a 350 install
Post by: BHK on September 13, 2008, 08:07:07 PM
I few years back I bought a 1968 corvette with a 427 and it was numbers matching. My plan was to restore it but I ended up driving it for a few years and then selling it. After selling it I have continued having the urge to get another project and this past weekend I just aquired it. I ran across a 1985 Fiero SE with 37,000 miles on it for only $500 and I just couldn't pass it up. The interior is MINT and the exterior is not bad but the paint is preaty scratched up. The motor is blown up with a hole in the block (from what I was told) but I still think I got a steal on this.
Anyways, my first thought is that I would LOVE to get my hands on a 350 and drop it in this. I think a 350 would make it one bad ride. I think this is one interesting car and I don't know much about it. I am a rookie at this car stuff but I desire to learn bigtime and have friends and family that can help out a lot (they are very knowledgable). I am looking for any input here on what it will take to pull my 6 cylinder out and drop a 350 into it. The little I have looked into this , I am finding that I will need to buy a $1,000 adapter kit to drop it in. Does this sound right? How hard is it? The more detail I can get the better. I am thinking about dropping a 350 in it and driving it as is for a while and then restoring it mint down the road (it won't take a lot and the interior is allmost there right now, it allmost looks brand new as it sits in my barn). Anyways, if anyone out there has any words of wisdome or detailed plans of attack I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Also, Will I need to find a chevy 350 engine from approx 1985 for it to fit and can I use my same automatic trany?
                                         Thank you.
